My Prayers

God knows I love my boys.

I love my boys with painfully passionate longing.

I love them so much, in fact, that I find it hard to trust them to God. "God", I say, "Here they are, the very marrow from my bones, the very beat of my heart, the very best of me. I lift them up to You to protect and nurture because you can do it better then me." Then I don't lift them up because my hands are white knuckling their small, vulnerable shoulders and I just can't let go.

Someone told me once that when I feel the need to protect my kids, it is good to pray a special prayer for them instead. So, as I tuck them into bed at night I ask God to give them STRENGTH and give them WISDOM. Not to shield them from any harm or obstacle, but for the tools to overcome it.

How do you pray for your most sacred treasure?

  1. I pray that I am not the obstacle that gets in their way of God's purpose for their life! I will now add a little of your prayer, thanks!

  2. I pray for them to come to truly know Jesus at a young age, before religion becomes an obstacle they must overcome. I pray for their innocence to remain for as long as possible. I pray for their spouse and their spouses family to know Jesus. I also pray for the things that may harm them, not so much that it won't happen because I know God's will and plan is above my own, but that whatever does come their way that they will know Jesus is there, that they are loved, and that they are not alone.

  3. I pray simply for Max to grow into a man of God...I think that is the most important prayer I can pray for him.

  4. Now that they are out of the house and testing the "real world" i worry that that their relationship with Jesus may not be real.i feel i put too much faith in their baptism and was not alarmed enough by their "lack of fruit". so, i now have posted a salvation prayer sent to me by a friend which accompanies many more specific prayers as well. here it is:Salvation Prayer:
Father, remove the veil from their eyes so that he can see the light of the gospel. Shine Your light in their hearts to give him the light of the knowledge of Your glory in the face of Christ (2 Cor. 4:4-6). Put people in their lives who will gently instruct them; and grant repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth. Stir in them the sorrow that produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation (2 Tim. 2:25, 2 Cor. 7:10). Open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in Christ (Acts. 26:18). Remove their heart of stone and give instead a heart of flesh, engraved with Your word (Ezek. 11:19). May they consider their ways and turn their feet to Your testimonies. Let Your hand be ready to help them as they choose Your precepts. Give them a longing for Your salvation, O Lord, and make Your law their delight (Ps. 119:59, 173-174).

  5. I pray differently in different seasons. I too am guilty of giving them to God and snatching them back. Just like I do with the rest of my life. Getting better though.
